Indian Malaysians comprise approximately 6.9% of the Malaysian population per the 2020 Census — approximately 2.3 million, descendants of British-colonial-era indentured-labor and free immigration from India (predominantly Tamil-source, ~85% of Indian Malaysians, concentrated heavily in the rubber-and-oil-palm plantation regions, with smaller Telugu, Malayali, Punjabi-Sikh, Bengali, Sinhalese, Pakistani sub-populations). Concentrated in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Penang, plus the historic plantation regions.
