About Turkish Arab People

Turkish Arabs comprise approximately 2% of the Turkish population — approximately 1.5-2 million, concentrated in southeastern Turkey (Hatay province — the historic Sanjak of Alexandretta, transferred from French Mandate Syria to Turkey in 1939 — plus parts of Sanliurfa, Mardin, Siirt). Cross-border population shared with Syria. The Hatay Arab population is divided between Sunni Muslim, Alawite (the substantial Hatay Alawite community is the largest Turkish Alawite-Arab community), Christian, plus other religious sub-populations.
