About Armenian Lebanon People
Lebanese Armenians comprise approximately 4% of the Lebanese population — approximately 150,000+ (substantially reduced from earlier 20th-c. peaks of approximately 250,000+ through the post-1975 Lebanese Civil War-era and continuing emigration to Armenia, Russia, the United States, Canada, Australia). Descendants of post-1915 Armenian Genocide survivors who settled in Lebanon plus subsequent immigration. Concentrated in Bourj Hammoud (the historic Armenian-Lebanese neighborhood east of Beirut, sometimes called 'Little Armenia'), Anjar (the Beqaa Valley Armenian community), plus other communities. Predominantly Armenian Apostolic Christian (with substantial Armenian Catholic and Armenian Evangelical sub-populations). The community has been politically prominent in the Lebanese sectarian system as a recognized confessional community.
