About Circassian People
Circassians (Adyghe / Cherkess in self-designation) are a Northwest Caucasian ethnic family — approximately 5-7 million globally, distributed across Turkey (the largest national Circassian population, ~2M+), the Russian Caucasus republics (Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, with combined population ~700,000+), Jordan (~100,000+), Syria (smaller community), Israel (~4,000), the United States, plus communities globally. The Circassian language family includes Adyghe (West Circassian) and Kabardian (East Circassian) plus the smaller Ubykh language (extinct as a first language since 1992). The post-1864 Russian conquest of the Caucasus (sometimes called the Circassian Genocide) produced approximately 1.5M+ Circassian refugees to the Ottoman Empire — the largest single demographic event in modern Caucasus history. Predominantly Sunni Muslim (since the Ottoman-era conversion plus continuing in the post-1864 diaspora). Concentrated in Düzce, Sakarya, Kayseri, Tokat, Samsun, Bursa, Çorum, Adapazarı plus other Turkish communities.
Typical Circassian Phenotypes
Reference for AI generation — hair, eyes, skin, facial structure, build
Phenotype distribution shows characteristic Northwest Caucasian source-population features. Skin tone is predominantly Fitzpatrick II-III with II-III the modal value — among the lighter-skinned West Asian populations. Hair texture is most often wavy (Andre Walker 1B-2C), predominantly dark brown to black with non-trivial frequencies of lighter variants. Facial features track Northwest Caucasian source populations: oval face shapes, taller-and-narrower nasal bridges, fuller lips, prominent dark eyebrows. Eye color is predominantly brown but with substantially elevated frequencies of hazel, green, and blue variants — Circassians have one of the higher light-eye frequencies of any Western Asian population. Build is taller and robust.
