About White Dominican People

White Dominicans comprise approximately 16% of the population. The community traces ancestry primarily to Spanish colonial settlement of the eastern half of Hispaniola (Santo Domingo was the first permanent European city in the Americas, founded 1496) and to 19th-20th c. immigration from Spain (especially Canarian, Galician, Andalusian post-civil-war), Italy, Lebanon-Syria, Germany, Austria-Hungary (notably the Sosúa Jewish refugee colony established in 1940 to receive European Jewish refugees from Nazism), Hungary, Russia, and other origins. Concentrated in Santo Domingo (especially the Polígono Central and elite residential areas), Santiago de los Caballeros, La Vega, and other major cities, plus the historically European-descended Cibao region. The Lebanese-Dominican community has been politically prominent, with several presidents and political figures of Lebanese descent.

Typical White Dominican Phenotypes

Reference for AI generation — hair, eyes, skin, facial structure, build

Skin tone is predominantly Fitzpatrick II-III with seasonal tanning. Hair is dark brown to medium brown with wavy to straight texture (Andre Walker 1A-2B). Facial features track Iberian (especially Canarian), Italic, Levantine, and Sephardic Jewish source populations. Eye color is most often brown but with elevated frequencies of hazel, green, and blue variants compared to the broader Dominican average. Build is on average taller than the broader Dominican norm. Note that even self-identified white-Dominicans typically carry detectable African and/or Indigenous Taíno admixture per genome-wide studies; the white-Dominican boundary is socially elastic and the 16% share captures social rather than purely genetic identity.
