About White Bolivian People

White Bolivians comprise approximately 5-12% of the population (estimates vary across surveys; the 2012 INE census did not enumerate the category separately and self-identification estimates come from Latinobarómetro and other survey sources). The community traces ancestry primarily to Spanish colonial settlement and to 19th-20th c. immigration from Spain, Italy, Croatia, Germany, and the Levant. Concentrated in Santa Cruz, Tarija, Sucre, La Paz, and Cochabamba. The Croatian-Bolivian community of Santa Cruz and the Mennonite-Bolivian community (separately enumerated) are culturally distinct. President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada and others have come from the white-Bolivian elite.
