About Asian Peruvian People
Asian Peruvians comprise approximately 1.4% of the population, comprising two major communities: Tusán (Chinese-Peruvian, descended from approximately 100,000 Cantonese contract laborers brought to Peru between 1849 and 1874 to work coastal sugar and cotton plantations) and Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian, descended from early-20th c. labor migration starting in 1899). The Tusán community is the larger and older, with substantial integration into Peruvian society — chifa (Peruvian-Chinese cuisine) is among Peru's most popular national cuisines, and an estimated 5-7% of Peruvians have some Chinese ancestry through earlier-generation admixture. The Nikkei community produced President Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) and is concentrated in Lima.
Typical Asian Peruvian Phenotypes
Reference for AI generation — hair, eyes, skin, facial structure, build
Skin tone is Fitzpatrick II-III for unmixed populations. Hair is uniformly straight (Andre Walker 1A-1B), black to very dark brown. Facial features track East Asian source populations: epicanthic-fold variants nearly universal, narrower-to-moderate nasal bridges, oval face shapes. Eye color is uniformly brown to dark brown. Build is on average shorter than the white-Peruvian norm but similar to Mestizo Peruvian. Mixed Asian-Peruvian × Mestizo populations show admixed phenotypes that are increasingly common; the Tusán × Mestizo admixture is particularly extensive due to the longer historical timeframe.
